Why Fast?“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. (Matthew 6:16-18 NKJV)Jesus in Matthew 6:16-18 makes an abundantly clear point: Jesus expects believers to fast. “And when you fast,” therefore it's not a matter of if, or should but “when.” In other words, our lives should be a life of fasting and praying. To combat the warfare we are constantly under, fasting more than ever is not an option; it is and must be a way of life for a true believer.There are demons and problems you will face, and a simple prayer is not sufficient to overcome them. In Mark chapter 9:14-29, the disciples were faced with casting out a demon from a boy who was possessed by a demon. Even though they had experience casting out demons before (Matthew 10) with great success but when it came to this demon, they could not. It is not until Jesus comes down that he is able to cast out the demon from the boy.And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” (Mark 9:27-28 NJKV) If you want the power to overcome addictions and sins that have been a consistent nuisance in your life, fasting is the key. If you want to enjoy intimacy with the Lord, seek answers to prayers, and grow in the love and knowledge of Christ, fasting is the key. Read more
