This fully illustrated A4-size book is the complete cyclist's guide to the Peak District. With large size maps, good detail and much information about local custom, history and geology appended to each route it is perfect for casual cyclists planning to explore in a relaxing way. Its two aims are to help cyclists find corners of the Peak District they might not otherwise discover, and to encourage less able or disabled individuals to become e-cyclists. (The author, herself disabled, is an enthusiastic e-trike rider.) Not intended for professional or sporting cyclists, nor thrill-seeking mountain bikers, such enthusiasts are welcome to share the routes which vary from short 6 mile ‘picnic routes’ to more advanced ones of 33 miles. A total of 800 miles riding covers the gritstone hills of the north, southern limestone areas, and across Staffordshire’s moorlands and mosses to where Cheshire’s steep hills meet the plain. Dubbed ‘miles without cars,’ as far as possible the routes follow the Peak District's network of minor roads and trails, with busy roads shunned (unless one has to be crossed to reach other minor roads). With a trike, or child buggy, any track with a narrow footbridge, gateway or stile is inaccessible, so all routes are trike and buggy friendly. All hills should be manageable, and all routes are ones that a folding electric bike can manage, and where assistance for less able individuals is rarely needed. With parts of the Peak District somewhat remote, there is advice on how to prepare for emergencies and rescue. The wealth of information covers location of car parks, toilets, where to eat and what to see, maps showing contour lines, steep hills, cattle grids, gates, tunnels and any special hazard. And with route descriptions advising on road quality; unfenced, a poor surface, muddy and potholed, and directions that ensure riders do not get lost when there are no signposts the book is supported by a Kindle e-book that can be carried when out in the hills.
